KATHMANDU: The first batch of vegetables, produced by 40 participants of off-seasonal vocational skills training provided by experts from Chongqing, China, went on sale in Tarakeshwar Municipality, Kathmandu, on Tuesday.

The trainees produced 300 kg of cauliflower, 500 kg of spinach, 140 kg of tomatoes, 100 kg of potatoes, and 100 kg of other vegetables in the first batch, according to a statement issued by the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) Nepal Office.

The event saw the participation of leaders from Wards 2 and 3 of Tarakeshwar Municipality, along with the head of the Agricultural Department of Tarakeshwor Municipality, among other dignitaries, according to the statement.

The training was jointly organized by the CFRD and New Light Foundation (NLF) to foster sustainable agricultural practices in Nepal. One of the objectives of the training was to contribute to sustainable agricultural practices in the municipality.

CFRD launched the ‘First Sustainable Development Experimental Village in Nepal’ in Tarakeshwor Municipality on May 29, 2023.

Addressing a ceremony orgnaized to mark the beginning of the sale, Ghanashyam Shrestha, Chairperson of Ward-6, said that the local community was committed to promoting sustainable agriculture practices. Likewise, Radha Krishna Khadgi, Chairperson of Ward-2, and Mina Kumari Thapa, Head of the Municipality’s Agricultural Department, said collaborative efforts between governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations was a must for the development of agriculture sector.

“The event not only celebrated the achievements of the trained farmers but also marked the beginning of a new chapter in sustainable agricultural development, showcasing the tangible outcomes of the joint efforts of CFRD, NLF, Chongqing Experts, and the Enlai Foundation,” the statement added.
