KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has launched the Government Integrated Office Management System (GIOMS).

Minister for Finance Rameshore Prasad Khanal formally inaugurated the system on Friday by approving a file through the online-based platform.

According to the ministry, the system has been introduced to implement the government’s vision of a paperless administration, making tasks carried out by government agencies simpler, faster, cost-effective, transparent and efficient through a single information technology platform.

Developed by the Department of Information Technology under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the use of the system has been made mandatory in the finance ministry.

Through GIOMS, tasks such as issuing directives and decisions, registering and dispatching correspondence, attendance, leave and deputation approvals, and records management must all be completed electronically with the use of digital signatures.

The ministry has said that the system is expected to bring speed to decision-making, cost savings, transparency in procedures and greater accountability.
