Finalize bills at the earliest, OPMCM tells ministries

KATHMANDU: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has questioned various ministries regarding the delay in drafting of important bills related to the implementation of the constitution.

At a joint meeting of the heads of law and judgment implementation committees of different ministries, the OPMCM questioned the ministries why important bills were not making progress.

Govinda Acharya, the press adviser to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, said the OPMCM has advised ministries to finalize the bills and forward them to the cabinet at the earliest.

Speaking on the occasion, Fanindra Nepal, the secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, said ministries should finalize the bills as soon as possible. Likewise, Lila Devi Gadtaula, Secretary (Law) at the OPMCM, underlined the need for serious discussion with the minister and secretary of each ministry to forward bills under them to the cabinet at the earliest. “This issue should be discussed seriously in the meeting of secretaries chaired by the Chief Secretary,” she added.

Currently, there are six bills under the law ministry and 11 under the finance ministry, while four are under consideration by the Bill Committee of the OPMCM.

According to the OPMCM, only about two dozen out of the 63 bills in the priority list have reached the final stage.
