KATHMANDU: The Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN) has announced plans for decisive protests against the government.
Organizing a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, FCAN officials said that a national gathering to be held on January 11 will finalize their protest strategies.
Representatives from construction entrepreneurs across the country will participate in the gathering and outline the final roadmap for the protest. FCAN
FCAN officials accused the government of showing indifference towards the construction sector. “A decisive protest is now the only alternative left to us,” FCAN President Rabi Singh said. “Despite being a key driver in reviving Nepal’s struggling economy, the construction sector is grappling with severe challenges. While the government agencies always express a commitment to clearing our pending payments, it has not happened.”
FCAN has warned that ongoing construction projects might be affected in the current fiscal year if outstanding payments are not released on time. It has also urged the government to immediately form a high-level commission to resolve the industry.
