Farmers press govt to withdraw decision to cut subsidies on fertilizers

KATHMANDU: Different farmers’ organizations are staging a protest against the government’s decision to cut subsidies on chemical fertilizers.

Organizers of farmers affiliated with CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantar Party and others organized a protest program at Maitighar on Thursday.

Among others, these organizations have called upon the government to roll back its decision to reduce subsidies on chemical fertilizers. They have threatened to intensify their protest in the coming days if the decision is not withdrawn.

The government earlier this week decided to reduce subsidies on chemical fertilizers by 11.8%. Farmers say reducing subsidies will make chemical fertilizers dearer in the market.
