KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has taken a firm stance on the Bhutanese refugee scam, stating that no one should be spared by the police.
A meeting of the party’s office-bearers held in Kathmandu on Friday concluded that all those implicated in the case must face legal action.
NC Spokesperson and Minister of Finance, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, said after the meeting that all individuals involved in the fraudulent activity of deceiving people by promising to send them to the US as Bhutanese refugees must be brought to book. “Those involved in this heinous crime should be held accountable through a thorough investigation,” Dr. Mahat stated. “The investigation will reveal who is responsible for this scam, and all those found guilty should face appropriate consequences.”
When asked about the delay in arresting UML Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Dr Mahat said that the state has a duty to hold all those involved in the Bhutanese refugee scam accountable for their actions. “This is not about any individual person. Everyone implicated in the case must face legal action,” he clarified.
Police have arrested eight persons, including a government secretary, for an investigation into the case.
