KATHMANDU: Employers placed a demand for more than 14,788 workers during the ‘Shramadhan Employment Fair’ recently organized by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security (MoLESS) in all seven provinces of the country.
Speaking at a press meet organized in Kathmandu on Sunday, Govinda Prasad Rijal, the spokesperson for the ministry, said 17,921 out of the 41,325 visitors to the fair have applied for employment.
The ministry organized the fair in all seven provinces of the country between May 30 and June 12. The ministry also organized 36 workshops on the sidelines of the fair. It partnered with 335 agencies, including sub-national governments, the private sector, and development partners, according to Rijal.
“The ministry will monitor whether employers fulfill their recruitment commitments made during the fair,” Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Gokarna Bista, said at the press meet. “The ministry will continue to remind employers about the commitments that they made during the fair.”
Meanwhile, the ministry on Sunday felicitated eight youths who have established successful business ventures in Nepal after returning from foreign employment. They were selected from 89 applications received by the ministry.
According to the ministry, Chandra Prasad Basnet of Jhapa received the Best National Entrepreneurship Award and a cash prize of Rs. 150,000. Likewise, Mohan Prasad Sangraula (Koshi), Hira Bahadur Thapa (Madhesh), Arjun Pariyar (Bagmati), Bhupendra Sharma (Gandaki), Rabilal Pantha (Lumbini), Takka Bahadur Nepali (Karnali), and Chandra Singh Thapa (Sudurpashchim) received the Best Provincial Entrepreneurship Award, each carrying a purse of Rs. 75,000.
