Dry landslide in Daunne affects vehicular traffic on East-West Highway

LUMBINI: The Narayanghat-Butwal section of the East-West Highway at Daunne has been completely blocked since Tuesday afternoon due to a dry landslide.

The landslide, which occurred during cutting and wall construction work as part of the highway upgrading project, has obstructed traffic on the country’s major highway.

According to Police Inspector Rajan Timilsena of the Dumkibas Area Police Office, efforts are underway to clear the road. “While road expansion works were ongoing, the road subsided from below. We are currently trying to reopen the road for vehicular traffic,” he added

The landslide occurred near the Vishwakarma Baba Temple on the Daunne road section.

SP Yadav Dhakal, the chief of the District Police Office, Nawalparasi East, said that light vehicles have been allowed to cross the road section after disembarking passengers.

Large vehicles and goods carriers, however, have been stopped at Dumkibas in the east and Bardaghat in the west.
