KATHMANDU: Former Inspector General of Nepal Police, Om Bikram Rana, has cautioned against making haste in the adjustment of police force.
Writing a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, Rana said: “I have come to know through the media that the Prime Minister has directed authorities to complete police adjustment within 15 days under pressure from Chief Ministers of provinces. The way the police force is being adjusted, it is certain to impact the professional development of a large number of Deputy Superintendents and Inspectors of Nepal Police.”
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday directed home ministry officials and the Inspector General of Nepal police to complete the police adjustment process within 15 days.
Rana also said that there would be confusion about who would be responsible for maintaining law and order if provincial police chiefs and chief district officers are kept under the federal government. “Instead of rushing with the adjustment process, it would be better to wait for the report of the committee led by former chief secretary Lilamani Poudel,” Rana added.
