Direct election of office-bearers proposed in RSP’s National Gathering

KATHMANDU: RSP Acting General Secretary Kabindra Buralkoti has proposed selecting party leadership and key office-bearers through a direct election.

Presenting a Statute Amendment Proposal in the party’s National Gathering that kicked office in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Burlakoti proposed electing the President and office-bearers, except Treasurer and Spokesperson, through a direct vote. In his proposal, Burlakoti has also proposed increasing the number of vice presidents and joint general secretaries to three with a minimum of one woman in each position.

Earlier, RSP President Rabi Lamichhane inaugurated the gathering of over 1,500 delegates.

Provincial committee coordinators presented their reports on the first day. Coordinators from Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces offered suggestions on party policies regarding ideology, organization, working style, and public interest issues in their respective reports.

Around 50 representatives also shared their views during the ‘Open Session.’ Allowing the party president to form his team, accelerating party expansion, strengthening grassroots organizations, directly electing the central committee, ensuring inclusiveness in forming committees, and avoiding the working style of older parties, were some of the suggestions provided by them.

RSP Treasurer Lima Adhikari and Accounts Commission Chief Abhishek Ghimire presented the party’s financial reports at the gathering. Stating that party resources were declining due to the policy of voluntary membership fees, the financial reports have proposed a ‘Party Pillar’ concept for financial strengthening.

Chief of the Discipline Commission Bharatmani Devkota presented the commission’s report on the first day. Likewise, Vice President Swarnim Wagle presented the party’s Policy-Ideology Report based on the proposal passed at the party’s Jaleshwar meeting in December last year.

According to the RSP, the second day of the gathering will focus on group discussions of the reports and proposals presented on Tuesday. The National Gathering is expected to conclude with the announcement of the date and venue for the party’s first general convention, likely to be held in April next year.
