KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced relationship with both China and India.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Deuba said that given the historical ties that Nepal shares with both China and India as neighboring countries, it is wise to strike a balance in our relationships with them. “We need to explain to our neighbors that while countries can choose their friends, they cannot choose their neighbors,” the former prime minister added.
Deuba also pointed out that since India is the primary buyer of hydropower generated in Nepal, there is an obligation to address India’s concerns. “Otherwise, India may not purchase our electricity no matter how much surplus we have,” he added.
Deuba also said that it is crucial to maintain positive relations with both China and India.
