Delegation of US Chamber participating in investment summit: Ambassador Thompson

KATHMANDU: A delegation of the US Chamber of Commerce is participating in the Nepal Investment Summit 2024 scheduled for April 28 and 29.

US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thompson, on Monday met Minister for Finance Barsha Man Pun and informed him about the participation of the US trade delegation in the investment summit.

According to Minister Pun’s Secretariat, the US envoy also expressed commitment to support the summit.

During the meeting held at the Ministry for Finance, the two discussed different aspects of bilateral relations and the projects being implemented under US assistance.

“The preparation for the Nepal Investment Summit 2024 is going on in full swing. We expect the support of the US Embassy in Kathmandu in bringing US investors to the summit,” Pun told Ambassador Thompson in the meeting.

Pun also said the sovereign rating of Nepal is underway by the US-based Fitch Rating Inc.

According to a statement issued by Pun’s Secretariat, the Foreign and Common Wealth Development Office of the UK Government has expressed commitment to bear the expenses of the sovereign rating.

On the occasion, Minister Pun informed Ambassador Thompson that the chances of Nepal being included in the grey list by the Financial Action Taskforce has been avoided as Nepal has already endorsed a Bill to amend the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2020.
