Death toll in Udayapur jeep accident rises to eight

ITAHARI: The number of fatalities in the Udayapur jeep accident has reached eight.

According to the District Police Office, Bhojpur, one more passenger was found dead inside the jeep while one succumbed to injuries at Dharan-based BP Koirala Memorial Institute of Health Sciences.

Six of the deceased are from Bhojpur district, while two are from Sunsari.

The deceased have been identified as Man Bahadur Basnet, Dishan Rai, Chandra Prakash Rai, and Parbat Maya Rai of Hatuwa-2; and Ram Kumari Rai (Mamata) and Kisan Rai of Hatuwa-5 of Bhojpur; and Padam Bahadur Thapa of Barahakshetra-3 and Kamala Adhikari of Itahari Sub-metropolitan City of Sunsari.

Kisan Rai died while undergoing treatment in Dharan while the other seven were found dead on the spot, according to the police.

Earlier, security agencies confirmed the death of six individuals.

Likewise, Bishesh Parajuli, Sharada Rai, Minu Rai, and Shantikala Rai, Sabina Pariyar, Gayatri Thapa Katuwal, Rama Thapa, Sushil Pariyar, Kulbung Rai, and Nikita Katuwal were injured in the accident. They are receiving treatment at BPKIHS Dharan.

The jeep heading to Bhojpur Dharan met with an accident at Mainamini in Belaka-6 of Udayapur on Thursday morning.
