
KATHMANDU: A curfew has been imposed in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area after pro-monarchy protesters turned violent, vandalizing private property and setting fires on Friday afternoon.
Assistant Chief District Office of Kathmandu, Ashok Kumar Bhandari, told Himal Press that the curfew covers Tinkune and surrounding areas. “Security forces issued prior warnings through loudspeakers before implementing the curfew order. The curfew order will be in place until 10 pm,” he added.
According to a notice published by the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, the curfew order will cover areas from Gaushala to Koteshwar via Airport, Gairigaun and Tinkune; from Koteshwar to Balkumari Bridge; from New Baneshwar intersection to Shankhamul Bridge; and from Gaushala intersection to New Baneshwar via Old Baneshwar.
The protest turned violent when demonstrators began throwing stones at private homes, prompting police to use tear gas and warning shots to disperse the crowd.
