KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Court has acquitted cricketers Aadil Ansari, Mehboob Alam and Nitesh Gupta in a spot-fixing case.

A single bench of District Judge Kamal Prasad Pokharel acquitted Ansari, Alam and Gupta as well as three others – Nabin Kandel and Rabi Majhi – on Monday, citing a lack of evidence.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) of Nepal Police had filed a case against the five at the district court last year. After a preliminary hearing, they were released on a bail of Rs 300,000 each.

The five have been accused of spot-fixing during the Nepal T20 league held at the TU International Cricket Ground from December 24, 2022, to January 11, 2023.

Adil had been accused of bowling a deliberate no-balls by accepting money from a bookie.
