KATHMANDU: Nepal is hosting UAE and Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the final tri-series of the ICC World Cricket League-2 (WCL-2) in Kathmandu. The matches will kick off at the TU International Cricket Ground from Thursday.

The final series of the WCL-2 will decide the teams finishing in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth position. Scotland and Oman occupy the top two spots, while PNG is confirmed to finish in the 7th position in the seven-team league.

Nepal will play two matches each with UAE and PNG in the tri-series. Nepal can leapfrog Namibia into the the third position by winning all four matches.

Top three teams in the league will qualify for the ICC World Cup Qualifier, while the bottom four will participate in the Qualifier Play-off which will also include top two teams of the Challenge League.

All three teams are looking to improve their position in the league table. Speaking at a press meet in Kathmandu, Nepal Head Coach Monty Desai said although the last series is difficult, they are looking to earn all available points..

Similarly, Captain Rohit Poudel said the team is looking to maintain its winning form and secure victory in all matches.

Coaches and captains of UAE and Papua New Guinea also said they will play for the victory.
