KATHMANDU: A global technology outage has caused severe disruptions to airlines, medical services, banks, and numerous other businesses and services worldwide.
According to New York Times, the outage has been attributed to issues with CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm whose software is widely used across various industries for protection against cyber threats.
The problem appeared to primarily affect computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system.
Major US airlines, including American, United, and Delta, have grounded all flights according to the Federal Aviation Administration, the New York Times said in its report. Airports around the world, including Sydney Airport in Australia, Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, and Dubai International Airport, have reported significant disruptions.
Indigo Air of India has issued hand-written boarding passes to passengers, according to a passenger.
Issuing a statement, Crowdstrike said it was aware of reports of crashes on Windows hosts related to its Falcon sensor.
