Colorful parliament! [In pictures]

KATHMANDU: The parliament premises wore a festive look on Thursday as the members of the House of Representatives representing different ethnic groups arrived to take the oath of office and secrecy in their traditional attire.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat had requested the members to wear their traditional attire for the swearing-in ceremony. As a result, traditional attires ranging from the flat lands of Tarai to the Himalayan highlands were on display on the parliament premises.

The constitution requires political parties to represent certain indigenous groups and nationalities in the parliament through either the first past the post (FPTP) system or the proportional representation (PR) system.
