CJ nominee Karki presents his workplan to hearing committee

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice nominee Hari Krishna Karki has expressed his unwavering commitment to combatting corruption within the judiciary.

During the parliamentary hearing on his appointment as the next Chief Justice on Thursday, Karki presented his comprehensive work plan, which includes the implementation of a code of conduct to monitor the conduct of court officials and employees. “My primary focus will be on promoting a clean and transparent judiciary,” stated Karki. He said he would bring needful laws to effectively tackle corruption within the court system.

The Acting Chief Justice also said he has managed to significantly reduce judicial deviations by approximately 60%. “The implementation of a lottery system for case allocation to benches has contributed to the decline in judicial departures,” he said, adding, “This system will remain in place until an automated system is implemented.”

Karki also expressed commitment to introduce legislation for establishing a grievance hearing mechanism and controlling the activities of intermediaries in the court.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee will seek responses from Karki on charges leveled against him Friday. A total of 38 changes have been filed against him.
