KATHMANDU: Police have said that the Chinese national, who they arrested on Sunday in possession of six kilograms of gold and Rs 480,000 in cash, has a Nepali citizenship.
Police arrested Sherab Gyalmo living in a rented apartment in Tinchuli of Kathmandu-6 on Sunday and presented him before the media on Monday.
According to SSP Habindra Bogati of the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB), gold and cash were recovered from his apartment. He was searching for people who could make payment for the gold in Tether cryptocurrency, police say.
Tether, or USDT, is a cryptocurrency pegged with US dollar.
Police say they also recovered Sherab’s Nepali citizenship certificate which was issued in the name of Sonam Gurung.
