KATHMANDU: Chinese ambassador to Nepal Chen Song paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sushila Karki at the Office of the Prime Minister in Singha Durbar on Thursday.
During the meeting, Ambassador Song congratulated Prime Minister Karki on assuming office and extended China’s support during her tenure. “We exchanged views and agreed to further promote our friendship and cooperation,” Song wrote in a post on X after the meeting.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese envoy made it clear that, as a good neighbor, China respects the aspirations of the Nepali people and is ready to extend support to the government whenever necessary.
“We respect the wishes of the Nepali people,” an official quoted the ambassador as saying. “We will continue to provide support in the days ahead. As a good neighbor, we are always prepared to assist wherever the government deems necessary.”
This was the Chinese ambassador’s first meeting since the formation of the interim government under Karki.
