KATHMANDU: Chinese President Xi Jinping has appreciated Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s commitment to promoting the development of friendly ties and support for cooperation between the two countries in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
“This is your first visit to China after your third term as Prime Minister of Nepal, and I am confident that it will yield fruitful results and give new impetus to the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries,” Xi told Dahal, according to Chinese daily Global Times.
Xi also said China attaches great importance to Nepal-China relations and is willing to strengthen its development strategy synergy with Nepal, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, enhance the exchange of experience in governance, and promote new progress in China-Nepal relations.
In response, Dahal thanked China for its support in economic matters, poverty alleviation and epidemics. He also reiterated that Nepal is firmly committed to the ‘One China’ policy and that Nepal has full support for the BRI promoted by China. In addition, he clarified that Taiwan and Tibet are integral parts of China and said that Nepal is firm on this, according to Nepali officials participating in the meeting.
Dahal arrived in China early Saturday morning for a week-long visit at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang. He flew to China right after addressing the 78th United Nations General Assembly. He also attended the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games.
Dahal will also hold a bilateral summit with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Prakash Saud, other cabinet members, and his daughter Ganga.
Dahal is also scheduled to address the China-Nepal Investment Summit organized jointly by the China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Nepali Embassy in Beijing.
According to the foreign ministry, Dahal will also visit Chongquing and Tibet Autonomous Region. He will return to Kathmandu on September 30 via Lhasa.
