LUMBINI: A peace rally was taken out in Lumbini on Monday morning on the auspicious occasion of the 2569th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day.
The rally, featuring various tableaux, started from the Mayadevi Temple premises in Lumbini and passed through the Peace Flame and Central Canal before concluding at the International Conference Center. A statue of Baby Buddha was also carried during the rally.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to address the main ceremony later on Monday. According to Siddhicharan Bhattarai, coordinator of the publicity committee, the event will see participation from Lumbini Development Trust Chairperson and Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Badri Pandey, Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya, former ministers, Lumbini Development Trust Vice-Chairperson Dr. Lharkyal Lama, federal and provincial parliamentarians, members from diplomatic missions and foreign guests.
Various programs are also being held in the greater Lumbini area, including Ramgram, Tilaurakot and Devdaha, as part of Buddha Jayanti celebration.
