Bicycles gifted to 50 schoolgirls in Dhanusha

JANAKPUR: Fifty schoolgirls from Shree Rastriya Secondary School in Birendra Bazar, Ganeshman Charnath Municipality, of Dhanusha district have received bicycles for their daily school commute.

The bicycles were distributed under the “Send a Girl to High School with a Bicycle Gift” campaign in the initiation of the Janaki Women Awareness Society (JWAS) with the support of the Germany-based Vicente Ferrer Stiftung gGmbH. The campaign aims to improve school access, promote girls’ education and reduce dropout rates because by long walking distances.

Mayor Jit Narayan Yadav, school Principal Hiralal Sah, teachers, parents and JWAS officials, including Chairperson Mandakini Karna and Program Director Rajan Nepal attended the event.

Students expressed their joy after receiving the bicycles, saying that it would save time, reduce fatigue and help them focus more on their studies.

The campaign has so far distributed bicycles to 651 girls across 14 public schools in Dhanusha and Rautahat since its launch in 2016. According to JWAS, the project also contributes to ending child marriage and promoting social justice.
