Barahathawa locals withdraw protest

KATHMANDU: The locals of Barahathawa have ended their protest following the signing of a 12-point agreement with the Sarlahi administration.

The locals had been demonstrating in the Barahathawa market area in Sarlahi for the past three days to protest the death of Jaya Shankar Sah, who was fatally shot by the police on Friday.

According to the agreement signed on Sunday, Barahathawa Municipality will transfer the basic health post to the Madhesh Provincial Government for conversion into a 50-room hospital as decided by its Municipal Executive meeting.

Additionally, both parties have agreed to name the hospital after the late Sah. As part of the agreement, the municipality will offer employment to a family member of the deceased Sah. The local administration has also agreed to install a statue of the late Sah on the hospital premises or at a location chosen by the locals.

Furthermore, the two sides have agreed to submit a proposal to the relevant authorities to declare late Sah as a martyr.
