ITAHARI: All 56 gates of the Koshi Barrage at Saptakoshi have been opened after the river crossed the danger level, according to the Koshi Barrage Control Room.
Continuous rainfall in the river’s catchment area has caused the water level in the Saptakoshi River to rise above the danger mark.
The local administration of Sunsari has urged people living in and around the Koshi region have been urged to remain on high alert.
As of 9:15 am, the water flow in the river was measured at 431,525 cusecs. Authorities said the water flow has been rising continuously.
Sunsari’s Chief District Officer Dharmendra Mishra said people living along the river’s banks have been advised to exercise full caution and avoid leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary.
According to Mishra, the river has already crossed the danger level at Chatara.
With the water level still rising, he urged people living near the riverbanks and in low-lying flood-prone areas to stay alert and move to safer locations until Monday morning.
