KATHMANDU: Dipendra Singh Airee has become only the third man to hit six sixes in an over in an international T20 match.

In Nepal’s second match of the 2024 ACC Men’s Premier Cup against Qatar in Oman on Saturday, Airee smashed six sixes off the final over bowled by Kamran Khan.

Airee, who had scored 28 off the first 15 balls he faced, added 36 for Nepal in the next six balls and remained unbeaten at 64 off 21 balls.

Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is the cricketer with six sixes in an over. He achieved the feat in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 against Stuart Broad of England. Kieron Pollard of the West Indies hit six sixes in an over bowled by Akila Dananjaya of Sri Lanka in 2021 to become the second man to achieve the feat.

Airee also took two wickets for Nepal and won the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.

In the post-match presentation, Airee said he could achieve the feat after hitting four sixes in a row.

In ODIs, Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa and Jaskaran Malhotra of the US have hit six sixes in an over.

This is not the first time, however, that Airee has clubbed six sixes in six consecutive balls that he faced. Airee had also hit six consecutive sixes in the overs bowled by M Altankhuyag and L Erdenebulgan in Nepal’s Asian Games Men’s Cricket Competition against Malaysia last year. He hit five sixes off the last five balls bowled by M Altankhuyag and added another one in the first ball he faced in the next over bowled by L Erdenebulgan. He scored a record 50 off just nine balls in that match.
