KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that adherence to the principle of non-alignment is important for a peaceful and prosperous world.

Talking to reporters upon his return from Kampala after attending the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement on Sunday morning, Dahal said that Nepal has embraced an independent foreign policy in all situations despite global complexities. “Recalling the leaders of the Asian and African continents, who articulated the basic values of conducting international relations during the Bandung Conference in the uneasy atmosphere of the Cold War between the two superpowers about seven decades ago, I highlighted in my address that the non-aligned movement has played a significant role in promoting political freedom, ending colonialism, and safeguarding sovereignty,” he said, emphasizing the need for global prosperity through increased mutual cooperation and understanding.

Dahal said that Nepal will continue to pursue a balanced and independent foreign policy based on sovereign equality, mutual harmony, mutual benefit, and peaceful resolution of conflict. Highlighting the importance of the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, Dahal said the policy of non-alignment was integral to Nepal’s foreign policy.

“I made it clear in the Summit that adherence to these principles leads to peace, harmony, and prosperity. I also underscored that this movement has contributed to elevating our international standing, fostering mutual harmony, cooperation, and collaboration,” he added.
