KATHMANDU: A group of 200 Korean Buddhist monks and pilgrims arrived in Lumbini on Tuesday.
The Lumbini Development Trust accorded a warm welcome to the pilgrims who came to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, on foot from India. The group, which included 105 religious leaders and pilgrims including Korea’s leading Buddhist monk Chasung, visited Mayadevi Temple and prayed for world peace.
Member of Parliament Basudev Ghimire, Vice President of Lumbini Development Trust Awadhesh Kumar Tripathi, Mayor of Lumbini Cultural Municipality Sajrudhin Muslim and others welcomed the pilgrims in Lumbini. The Ambassador of South Korea to Nepal, Park Chung-Suk, also attended the prayers. They also attended a sermon delivered by Buddhist leader Chasung.
The group embarked on its 1,100 km walk from Dhamek Stupa in Sarnath on February 9. It entered Nepal after visiting Sarnath, Bodh Gaya, Kushinagar and other Buddhist sites in India. It will leave for Sravasti, India, via Kakrahawa border on Wednesday. The walk is scheduled to complete on March 9.
A Buddhist organization registered under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea organized the walk.
The pilgrims visited the Mayadevi Temple, Pushakrini Pond, Ashok Pillar, and other attractions.
