KATHMANDU: The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has expressed serious concern over reports of police questioning, detaining and arresting journalists.
In a social media post on Friday, RSP Spokesperson Jagdish Kharel called on the government to clarify the incidents involving journalists from various media outlets.
According to Kharel, the party respects press freedom and freedom of expression as fundamental rights and acknowledges its responsibility to uphold them.
“The RSP is clear that no journalist or media worker can be unlawfully arrested over news reports,” he said, adding that other avenues remain available for seeking justice and should be pursued instead.
The statement comes amid reports of police questioning and detaining journalists and the presence of police personnel in newsrooms over reports concerning senior officials, including the Inspector General of Nepal Police and Supreme Court justices.
