KATHMANDU: Traffic has resumed on the flood-damaged Galchhi-Betrawati section of the Pasang Lhamu Highway following the opening of a new track.
While the road section, which serves as a major route connecting Rasuwa with the rest of the country, has been opened to traffic, grading and graveling work are still to be completed, according to Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal.
Lamsal urged all concerned to facilitate the ongoing road construction and repair works, stating that heavy traffic was affecting the work.
Meanwhile, works to install a Bailey bridge over the Betrawati River, which forms the border of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, have also begun. According to Minister Lamsal, the foundation for the bridge on the Nuwakot side has already been prepared, while the one on the Rasuwa side has also reached its final stage.
“Work is being expedited with the target of completing the installation of the Bailey bridge within a week,” he added.
Vehicular movement to and from Rasuwa has been disrupted after the August 26 flood washed away the road in different parts of the Galchhi-Betrawati section.
A track for small vehicles through different rural settlements, however, was opened a few days after the floods.
