Wagle, Jaishankar discuss investment, energy and connectivity

KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Dr Swarnim Wagle met Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi on Friday.

The two held discussions on ways to further strengthen Nepal-India relations and bilateral cooperation. The meeting focused on investment, energy and connectivity, according to the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Wagle thanked the Indian government for its support in rescue and relief operations following the August 26 flash floods in Rasuwa.

The two ministers also discussed ways to deepen the longstanding friendship between Nepal and India and advance bilateral cooperation in key areas.

Wagle, who is on a three-day visit to India, met with his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday. During the meeting, the two discussed bilateral economic interests and cooperation.

Earlier on Friday, Wagle addressed a High-level Diplomatic Roundtable held at the India International Centre (IIC).

The roundtable was attended by former Indian foreign secretary and former ambassador to Nepal Shyam Saran; senior Indian National Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh; former national security adviser and former foreign secretary Shivshankar Menon; former deputy national security adviser and diplomat Pankaj Saran; renowned economist and JNU emeritus professor and former vice-chancellor of Delhi University Deepak Nayyar; India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) Chairman Javed Ashraf; former Indian ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae; Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) foreign affairs department head Dr Vijay Chauthaiwale; South Asian geopolitics and connectivity scholar Dr Constantino Xavier; Indian Ministry of External Affairs Director Manusmriti; and The Hindu’s diplomatic affairs editor Suhasini Haidar, along with members of the Nepali delegation.

Wagle is scheduled to return to Nepal on Saturday.
