KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that the government would mobilize whatever resources and manpower were necessary to safely rescue people trapped in hydropower tunnels on the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli River corridor.
Receiving a delegation of the Ujyalo Nepal Party at his office on Thursday, Prime Minister Shah said a team of experts was continuing efforts to rescue those trapped in the tunnels.
“The prime minister inquired about ways to rescue people trapped inside the tunnels,” Ujyalo Nepal Party Chairperson Kulman Ghising told reporters after the meeting. “We have suggested that the government arrange necessary equipment and human resources to the tunnel areas.”
Gurung, who is also a former energy minister and former chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), said the Prime Minister assured the delegation that resources would also be brought in from abroad if necessary.
“We urged the government to restore road networks immediately to speed up relief distribution in the affected areas of Rasuwa and Nuwakot,” Ghising said. “We also held extensive discussions about extending the road network to Syafrubesi and installing Bailey bridges where bridges have been swept away.”
More than 900 workers of different hydropower projects are missing following the August 26 floods in the Bhotekoshi River.
