KATHMANDU: Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that India stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Nepal.
Singh made the remarks on Monday after signing the condolence book at the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi
“We are friends in good times and bad. India stands shoulder to shoulder with Nepal,” Singh said.
He also said India was committed to supporting Nepal in search, rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Singh expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the devastating floods in Nepal.
India has so far sent more than 55 tons of relief and medical supplies to Nepal since the devastating floods of August 26. The southern neighbor has also deployed specialist teams to the affected areas to assist in search and rescue operations.
The flood, triggered by the ice-rock avalanche on the northern slopes of Mt Langtang Lirung, has claimed over 900 lives as of Monday afternoon, while more than 2,400 are still missing.
