RPP authorizes Lingden to decide on joining provincial governments

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has authorized party Chairperson Rajendra Lingden to decide whether the party will join provincial governments.

A meeting of the party’s Central Work Execution Committee on Wednesday entrusted Lingden with the authority to make the decision at an appropriate time, taking into account the party’s broader interests.

Speaking after the meeting, party Spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha said the RPP was neither eager nor actively seeking to participate in the formation of provincial governments. “Our position is that provincial governments should be formed by the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the Nepal Communist Party (NCP),” he said. “If the party is required to make a decision regarding provincial governments, it will do so at the appropriate time with the party’s interests as the primary consideration.”

RPP’s support is crucial for the UML-NCP alliance, especially in Bagmati Province, as it starts preparation to form government.

Shrestha also said the party would issue necessary directives on the matter very soon.

The meeting also decided to instruct all RPP provincial parliamentary parties and provincial assembly members not to engage in any power-sharing or government-related activities until the party issues an official directive.
