KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a four-day losing streak on Tuesday, posting a modest gain of 6.11 points to close trading at 2,576.29.
The benchmark index had shed 30.60 points and slipped below the psychological 2,600-point mark in the previous session.
Although the index dipped to an intraday low of 2,547.06 points after early gains, it recovered within about an hour to hit an intraday high of 2,584.29 points. It, however, pared some gains thereafter but till ended the session in the green.
Unit prices of 164 scrips advanced during the session, while 101 declined and 10 remained unchanged. Total turnover increased to Rs 8.41 billion with 18.29 million units traded through 53,854 transactions.
Among individual stocks, debenture and mutual fund units of banks and financial institutions dominated the top gainers, top turnover, and volumes. 9% Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank Debenture 2087 posted the highest gain of 10.22%. On the other hand, Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha logged the biggest loss of 8.1%.
Likewise, 10% KBL Debenture 2090 topped the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 527.18 million. 10% NIMB Debenture 2090 and 7% Nepal SBI Debenture 2090 were next with turnovers of Rs 391.64 million and Rs 375.11 million, respectively.
Except for the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which posted a nominal loss of 0.185, all trading groups ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Trading sub-index, which closed 1.47% higher. Next were the Mutual Fund and Investment sub-indices with gains of 0.61% and 0.54%, respectively.
