KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order over the detention of CPN-UML Vice Chairperson and former finance minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, directing government agencies to justify the arrest.
A single bench of Justice Shrikant Paudel issued the order on Thursday, while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Paudel’s wife Domaya.
Domaya filed the habeas corpus petition on Wednesday, claiming that Paudel, who was arrested in connection with a money laundering investigation, was being detained unlawfully.
Police arrested Paudel on Monday at the request of the Department of Money Laundering Investigation while he was in Surkhet to participate in a party program. He was brought to Kathmandu on Tuesday and presented before the Special Court. The Special Court granted investigators a seven-day remand on the same day to investigate allegations against Paudel.
