PM Shah gave more time to convention than anticipated: Jha

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and senior leader of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Balendra Shah, has returned from Chitwan after the party’s 1st General Convention failed to conclude as planned.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, RSP Spokesperson Manish Jha said that Shah returned after participating in the convention for three days, as he had committed to during the inauguration ceremony.

“He became concerned about the country’s affairs and left the general convention venue. During the inauguration, he had said he would stay for three days. He fulfilled that commitment and left for Kathmandu,” Jha said in the press conference organized at the general convention venue in Bharatpur.

Jha added that the Prime Minister spent more time at the convention than the party had expected. “Shah’s presence was viewed positively, particularly because there had been uncertainty over whether he would attend the opening ceremony,” he added. “However, had he remained at the party event for a longer period, it could have triggered various questions and public commentary. Therefore, he chose to return to his official responsibilities.”

The RSP’s general convention, originally scheduled for June 21 to 23, is still ongoing as a vote to elect the new Central Committee has yet to be held.

According to Jha, the party aims to wrap up all convention-related activities by Thursday.
