UML condemns Paudel’s arrest

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has condemned the “abduction-style” arrest of its Vice Chairperson Bishnu Prasad Paudel.

Issuing a statement on Monday evening, party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli said the UML has always stood firmly for the rule of law, good governance, and constitutional order. He alleged that the ruling side’s actions reflect “non-political, undemocratic, and blatant revenge” against opposition parties.

“This is yet another extreme example of the ongoing attacks and political conspiracy against opposition parties, CPN-UML,” Oli said.

He further warned that the current government is moving toward authoritarianism. “We want to warn the government—such disgraceful and vindictive actions targeting opposition leaders must stop immediately,” he said, calling on all patriotic, justice-loving, and democratic forces to unite in protest against arbitrary and anti-democratic activities.

A team from the Department of Money Laundering Investigation arrested Paudel in Surkhet on Monday evening while he was attending a party event.
