Statement of some leaders benefiting reactionary forces: Dahal

KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged party leaders not to spread pessimism in a way that benefits reactionary forces.

Launching the party’s digital membership renewal and distribution campaign at the party headquarters in Parisdanda on Friday, Dahal said some individuals were attempting to create unnecessary confusion and controversy about the party, the political movement and its leadership. He advised party leaders not to engage in activities that foster despair and ultimately serve the interests of reactionary forces.

“Reactionary elements are continuing their efforts to weaken established political parties that had fought for democracy, republicanism, federalism, and inclusiveness,” he said, accusing some party leaders of spreading pessimism, knowingly or unknowingly.

Although Dahal did not name anyone, senior party leader Jhalanath Khanal had heavily criticized the party leadership on Wednesday. Khanal also proposed that party coordinator Dahal and co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal step down from their leadership positions. In a 36-point letter of dissent sent to Dahal, Khanal said that the party leadership had gone off course and was no longer capable of leading the party to its general convention. He also accused the leadership of failing to achieve party unity, provide ideological clarity, and carry out organizational restructuring.

Commenting on the functioning of the government, Dahal said the government’s policies, programs, budget, and overall working style clearly appeared to be against the interests of the poor, workers and farmers. “The party will raise its voice on all fronts against the government’s anti-working-class, anti-poor and anti-farmer activities. We will always oppose actions that undermine fundamental rights, trade union rights, and other public rights.

Also speaking on the occasion, NCP Co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal said the party would move forward with an agenda focused on social and economic transformation while keeping the people at the center of its policies. He added that party leaders and cadres would be provided with the necessary training to effectively communicate the party’s policies and vision to the public.
