Ashika requests PM to disclose details of Indian land encroached by Nepal

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ashika Tamang has urged Prime Minister Balendra Shah to make public details of any Indian territory allegedly encroached upon by Nepal.

In a social media post on Monday, Tamang urged the prime minister to disclose factual information regarding locations where Nepal may have encroached on Indian land.

“I sincerely request the Prime Minister to make public the facts about where Nepal has encroached on India’s territory,” she wrote. “Until now, many other Nepalis and I believed that only India had encroached on Nepal’s land. But from today, it appears we must understand that Nepal, too, may have encroached on the territory of a neighbouring country.”

Her remarks came in response to remarks made by Prime Minister Shah in the House of Representatives on Sunday. “Just as India has encroached on Nepali land, Nepal has also encroached on India’s land,” Shah said.

After Shaha’s comments drew public criticism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday evening clarified that the prime minister was referring to cross-border land use and encroachment of the no-man’s-land area known as the Dasgaja.
