Opposition lawmakers obstruct Koshi Province Assembly meeting

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers from opposition parties protested in the Koshi Provincial Assembly on Wednesday, accusing the government of endorsing the province’s policies and programs without allowing time to register amendments.

They argued that the policies and programs document was passed without completing the required procedures.

When Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista attempted to proceed with the scheduled agenda, opposition lawmakers surrounded the bell and chanted slogans against the government. Although some lawmakers tried to snatch the microphone from the rostrum, parliamentary marshals intervened and stopped them.

Amid the disruption, Speaker Bista said the policies and programmes were passed as no amendment proposals had been filed within the given timeframe. He also clarified that the opposition’s dissent had been officially recorded.

Following continued obstruction by opposition lawmakers, Speaker Bista adjourned the meeting for half an hour.

The Koshi Provincial Assembly had passed the policies and programs for the fiscal year 2026/27 on Monday.
