KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended last week’s upward momentum, gaining 27.85 points to close trading at 2,786.35 on Monday, the first trading day of the week.
The benchmark index had gone up by 16.38 points in the previous session.
The index moved into green territory right after trading began on Monday morning and continued the momentum throughout the session to end 1% higher.
Unit prices of 235 scripts advanced during the session, while 28 declined and seven remained unchanged. Total turnover surged to Rs 5.98 billion, the highest daily trading value since April 28, when Rs 6.41 billion worth of shares were traded. A total of 14.54 million units were traded through 75,856 transactions on Monday.
Among individual stocks, Three Star Hydropower Ltd posted the biggest gain of 9.01%, while Bungal Hydro Ltd suffered the biggest loss of 10.32%. On the other hand, Ankhu Khola Jalvidyut Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of Rs 602.01 million on Monday. Next were Ridi Power Company Ltd and Api Power Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 301.75 million and Rs 184.01 million, respectively.
Except for the Mutual Fund sub-index, which suffered a marginal decline of 0.2%, all trading groups ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Hydropower sub-index, which closed 1.5% higher. Next were Manufacturing & Processing and Others sub-indices, which were up 1.35% and 1.23%, respectively.
