KATHMANDU: Shram Sanskriti Party Chairperson Harka Raj Rai, who is popularly known as Harka Sampang, has said that they are prepared to face suspension if necessary to hold the government accountable to the parliament.
Talking to reporters at the parliament complex on Wednesday, Rai said that their protests to hold the government accountable to the parliament would continue in the coming days as well. He added that they were ready to accept suspension as a consequence of their protests.
Rai also expressed opposition to the Speaker’s ruling, which he claimed prevents them from questioning the government. He emphasized that they are willing to be suspended for the sake of a sovereign parliament and parliamentary procedures.
“We must protest because many of our questions regarding landless squatters (Sukumbasi), the Lipulekh issue, and foreign debt have not been answered,” Rai said. “People will judge this irresponsible government that is unable to answer questions raised by them.”
Earlier, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal had warned members of the SSP Party to correct their conduct.
After the SSP lawmakers staged a protest carrying pamphlets during the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, Speaker Aryal warned them, stating that it is the duty of everyone to maintain the dignity of the parliament.
