KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) snapped a three-day losing streak, posting a marginal gain of 1.77 points to close trading at 2,731.94 points on Friday—the trading session of the week.
The benchmark index fluctuated sharply throughout the session. After opening lower, the market climbed steadily and touched an intraday high of 2,743.84 points in the second hour of trading. However, profit-booking in the latter half erased most of the gains before some late buying helped the index finish slightly in the green.
Unit prices of 127 scrips advanced during the session, while 120 declined and 22 remained unchanged. Turnover dropped to Rs 3.09 billion compared to the previous session, with 7.93 million units traded through 43,674 transactions.
Among individual scrips, 7% Nabil Debenture 2079 posted the highest gain of 7.71%. On the other hand, Union Hydropower Ltd logged the biggest loss of 14.79%. Despite the loss, Union Hydropower Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 306.64 million worth of shares traded. Next were Api Power Company Ltd and Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd with turnovers of Rs 114.41 million and Rs 86.3 million, respectively.
Seven sub-indices posted gains, while the remaining six ended the session in the red on Friday. The Non-life Insurance sub-index posted the biggest gain of 0.64%. On the other hand, the Mutual Fund sub-index logged the biggest loss of 0.33%
