Nepse edges up 6.94 points; turnover drops below Rs 3 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) edged up by 6.94 points and closed at 2,718.16 points on Thursday, as a late buying spree helped the market recover from intraday volatility.

Trading saw sharp fluctuations throughout the session, with the index slipping to an intraday low of 2,701.35 before rebounding in the final minutes to settle at the day’s high.

Unit prices of 155 scrips advanced during the session, while 102 declined and 12 remained unchanged. Turnover, however, declined to Rs 2.93 billion, with 6.68 million units traded across 45,065 transactions. This marks the lowest since October 26 last year, when the market total turnover was Rs 2.36 billion.

Nepse had posted a total turnover of Rs 23.17 billion on March 22. A total of 55.76 million units were traded through 201,288 transactions during that session. The total turnover, as well as both the number of shares traded and the number of transactions, has declined consistently since then.

Among individual stocks, Swabalamban Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha posted the highest gain of 12.19%, while Forward Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha logged the biggest loss of 13.24%. NRN Infrastructure & Development topped the turnover chart with Rs 176.83 million worth of shares traded. Next were National Hydropower Company and Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd with turnovers of Rs 143.48 million and Rs 141.58 million, respectively.

Eight sub-indices posted gains on Thursday, while the remaining five ended in the negative territory. The Trading sub-index registered the biggest gain of 1.57%, while the Non-Life Insurance sub-index logged the biggest loss of 0.56%.
