KATHMANDU: Chinese President Xi Jinping has put forward a four-point proposal to promote peace and stability in West Asia.
Xi’s proposal came after the US decision to impose a blockade on Iranian ports following the failure of the talks between US and Iranian officials brokered by Pakistan.
The Chinese President made the proposal during a meeting with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), in Beijing on Tuesday.
The proposal includes adherence to the principle of peaceful coexistence, acknowledging the sovereignty of countries, upholding the international rule of law, and adherence to the coordination of development and security.
Earlier, the Chinese foreign ministry condemned the US blockade as dangerous and irresponsible. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun warned at a news conference that the blockade would only exacerbate tensions and undermine the already fragile ceasefire agreement.
