KATHMANDU: Separate arrest warrants have been issued against former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his spouse, former foreign minister Arzu Rana Deuba, for an investigation into money-laundering charges.

A source at the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that the Kathmandu District Court issued the warrant. “The necessary process has already begun for their arrest as part of the investigation,” the source said.

The Deuba couple left for Singapore in the last week of February for medical treatment. They were last seen in Hong Kong about two weeks ago.

Pressure to investigate the Deuba couple on money laundering charges had been mounting after stacks of burnt banknotes were found during arson and vandalism at their residence on September 9 last year.
