KATHMANDU: Chhabilal Rijal, who served as Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu during last September’s deadly protests, has been arrested.
Rameshwar Karki, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, told Himal Press over the phone that Rijal was apprehended from his residence this morning.
“We arrested Rijal on Tuesday morning. The investigation will now move forward,” Karki said.
A total of 76 people died in different parts of the country, while arson and vandalism on public and private property resulted in damages worth billions of rupees.
A high-level commission formed to probe the incidents of September 8 and 9 had recommended action against Rijal. He was arrested for investigation based on the commission’s report.
Earlier, police arrested then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and then-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak based on the commission’s report.
