KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has proposed to host the party’s central general convention on September 9-11.

Presenting the schedule for the party’s 15th General Convention during the Central Working Committee meeting, which kicked off in Lalitpur on Tuesday, Thapa proposed starting the general convention process in mid-April.

According to Thapa’s proposed timeline, the process of distributing active membership and renewals will begin in mid-April. The membership verification process will be completed by June 29, following which the final membership list will be forwarded to the Election Committee by mid-July.

Likewise, the party will hold ward-level convention on July 22, municipal-level convention on July 28, provincial constituency-level convention on August 8, and federal constituency-level convention on August 15.

According to Thapa’s proposal, the district-level convention will be held on August 22 and 23, the provincial election on August 31 and September 1, and the central convention on September 9-11.

NC elected a new leadership through a special general convention in January. As per the party statute, a regular convention must be held within a year of holding a special general convention.
